Dear Fellow Resident,
I am pleased to provide an update on the Economic Development Committee (EDC), which was authorized by the Township Committee in June. Since that time, we’ve received very positive feedback on this initiative from both residents and local business owners. We’ve also had several helpful conversations with community members who shared questions, ideas, and concerns—each of which has helped shape the direction of this new committee.
Over the summer, nine residents expressed interest in joining the EDC. This group has met several times to review the committee’s operating manual and to gain a clear understanding of the mission and vision for economic development here in Harrison Township.
At the most recent Township Committee meeting, seven candidates were officially nominated and approved to serve as the first members of the Economic Development Committee. This dedicated team will hit the ground running with a full agenda, including website development work, building relationships with local businesses, and launching surveys for residents and business owners to better understand the local business environment.
As one of the committee’s first community initiatives, the EDC is helping to present a FREE Teen Job Hunters Seminar on Thursday, October 16th, at the Mullica Hill Branch of the Gloucester County Library (Route 45 & Wolfert Station Road).
The seminar, titled What Your First Boss Will Want From You is designed for teens ages 15–19 who are seeking, or preparing for, their first job. The session will focus on the skills, behaviors, and attitudes that make a great first impression, help teens succeed at work, and leave any job on good terms. Discussion topics were developed using real-world input from local business owners and staff from three local small businesses.
If you know a teen who’s looking to “up their job game,” this event is for them! Space is limited, so please register as soon as possible. Click here to register!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at tcoakley@harrisontwp.us if you have any questions or would like additional information about the EDC.
Sincerely,
TJ Coakley
