Holiday Wishes From Mayor Wingate

Leadership Messages

Dear Neighbor,

Today, many in our community and around the world celebrate the joy of Christmas. This sacred day proclaims the birth of Jesus Christ, whose coming brought hope, peace, and salvation. Those of the Christian faith observe Christmas through worship, prayer, and the retelling of the Nativity, while rejoicing in time-honored traditions such as decorating their homes, singing carols, and gathering with loved ones to share delicious meals and exchange gifts. On this Christmas Day, I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas.

Beginning tomorrow, others in our community will celebrate Kwanzaa, a weeklong cultural observance that honors African heritage, culture, and shared values. Kwanzaa centers on family, community, and reflection, and is guided by seven core principles emphasizing unity, self-determination, collective responsibility, purpose, creativity, and faith. It is often celebrated through gatherings, storytelling, music, and a communal feast. To those celebrating, I extend wishes to you and your loved ones for a happy and meaningful Kwanzaa.

Regardless of how we observe the season or practice our faith, we are reminded that we’re all connected through the moments of joy, gathering around the table, sharing laughter, and spending time with those we love. It is these traditions that bring special meaning to this time of year.

The holiday season is also a time to remember those who may be struggling. In my role as Mayor, I am fortunate to witness the many ways our community rises to support one another throughout the year. I am continually inspired by the compassion of our residents and their willingness to volunteer, lend a hand, and care for neighbors in need. That spirit of generosity and connection shines especially bright during the holidays.

On behalf of Deputy Mayor Lawrence Moore and Committeemen Jeff Jacques, Kevin French, and T.J. Coakley, I extend warm holiday wishes to everyone in our community. May the season be filled with peace, happiness, and joyful moments with loved ones.

Warm regards,
Adam Wingate
Mayor, Harrison Township
