Dear Fellow Resident,
As Election Day approaches this Tuesday, we are reminded that it is not just a civic event, but one of the greatest freedoms we share as Americans. It is an opportunity to use the power of our voices and collective strength to shape the future of our communities and country.
Our Founding Fathers built the right to vote into the very framework of the nation, on the tenet that government must draw its power from the consent of the people and that citizens should have a voice in its direction. The framers of the Constitution affirmed that through free and fair elections, we would preserve a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. They believed that a free society depends not only on the principles written into law, but also on the active participation of its citizens. For nearly 250 years, that belief has stood as one of our country’s defining values.
Throughout our history, generations have fought to expand and protect this right, from the earliest struggles for independence to the movements that secured equal access for women and minorities. Each ballot cast is part of this legacy, proving that our freedom prevails because we continue to claim it.
Participating in the election of our government is an essential right and exercising it is how our democracy endures. Join me in embracing this principle by making your voice heard on Tuesday.
Sincerely,
Adam Wingate
Mayor, Harrison Township
