A Message From Deputy Mayor Lawrence Moore – Honoring Patriot Day

Leadership Messages

Dear Fellow Resident,

Next Thursday, September 11th, at 6:30 PM, our community will gather for Harrison Township’s Annual Patriot Day Commemoration at Mullica Hill Baptist Church and our 9/11 Memorial, located at 18 South Main Street.

Patriot Day is a time for reflection, a day to remember the lives lost, honor the courage of those who ran toward danger to help others, and recognize the resilience that unites us as Americans. The events of September 11th revealed the very best of our country’s spirit: compassion in the face of sorrow, unity in chaos, and strength in the aftermath of tragedy.

Here in Harrison Township, this history holds special meaning. Our 9/11 Memorial, built in 2018, brings together three powerful artifacts: a steel beam from the World Trade Center, a concrete slab from the Pentagon, and a stone from the Flight 93 crash site in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It stands at the center of Main Street, a lasting reminder of the American spirit and a place where we gather to reflect, remember, and honor.

We also take this day to recognize our own heroes, Harrison Township’s first responders. Every day, they protect our families, answer our calls, and serve with dedication and courage. This dedication reflects the same spirit of service shown by the heroes of 9/11, and for that, our community is deeply grateful. As a Harrison Township volunteer firefighter, I am proud to stand among them, sharing in the honor and responsibility of serving our community.

I hope you and your family will join Mayor Adam Wingate, along with my fellow Committeemen Jeff Jacques, Kevin French, TJ Coakley, and me, as we come together on Patriot Day to remember 9/11.

Together for Harrison,
Lawrence Moore
Deputy Mayor, Harrison Township
