Join author Lenny Wagner for a captivating look at the life of Walter French, a pro athlete, World Series champion, and key figure in one of football’s most controversial championship disputes.
Based on Wagner’s new book, Playing with the Best: One Man’s Journey through the Golden Age of Sports, this presentation follows French’s extraordinary career. In 1925, he starred for the Pottsville (PA) Maroons in their victory over the Chicago Cardinals, a game believed to secure the NFL Championship, only to have the title controversially stripped by the league. Just four years later, French played for the Philadelphia Athletics as they defeated the Chicago Cubs to win the 1929 World Series.
