Dr. Jessica Bowen’s Story – Beautiful Smiles

For someone who once dreaded doctor visits, Dr. Jessica Bowen has built a career centered on making others feel comfortable in the very chair she once feared. Today, as the founder of Bowen Family Orthodontics in Mullica Hill, she is not only a trusted Top Doc but also our neighbor, volunteer, wife, and mom who has fully embraced life in the Hill.

Overcoming Fear

As a child growing up in Cherry Hill with two older brothers, Jessica Bowen’s trips to the dentist were anything but routine. “I was so scared of going to the doctor, dentist, and orthodontist, I would scream and just generally act terrible!” she admits. Yet those anxious beginnings shaped her vision: if she could transform her own fear into strength, she could create a practice where patients felt safe and supported.

Her love of science and her early job working for her orthodontist led her to pursue dentistry. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from The College of New Jersey, she went on to the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where she earned multiple top honors, before completing her orthodontic training and master’s degree at the University of Connecticut. Along the way, she achieved national recognition for her research and scored highest in the country on the American Board of Orthodontics written exam.

Building a Patient-First Practice

In 2019, Dr. Bowen found the perfect location for her dream practice in Mullica Hill. From the start, she envisioned something different: an office that combined advanced technology with genuine warmth. Patients would be greeted by mounted TVs over each chair, digital scanners instead of gooey impressions, and the convenience of texting or virtual appointments.

Her vision was tested almost immediately. Bowen Family Orthodontics opened in February 2020, just weeks before the pandemic shutdown. With resilience and creativity, she used technology to stay connected with patients and leaned on her personal philosophy of pairing high-tech care with high-touch service. That approach quickly gained traction, and in 2022 began her run as a South Jersey Magazine Top Dentist.

For Dr. Bowen, orthodontics is about much more than straightening teeth, it’s about confidence. “It is so rewarding to look back at photos from my patients’ first visit to the day they get their braces off. For kids, their confidence blooms, and for adults, it’s often life-changing. I love being part of that transformation.”

Smiles Beyond the Office

Jessica is more than a local business owner; she’s an active community member. She serves as Social Media Chair of the Rotary, Secretary of the Mullica Hill Business Association, and is a proud member of the Gloucester County Vixens, a women’s dragon boat team dedicated to supporting local charities. She also lends her time and support to fundraisers for local youth sports, our township’s elementary schools, and other community organizations.

A Family That Inspires

Behind her professional drive and community service is a family that keeps her grounded. Dr. Bowen and her husband, Peter, a Radnor, PA native whom she jokes about “Jersey-fying”, moved to Mullica Hill with their children in 2023. Their daughter Brielle and their son Carter attend Harrison Elementary.

Family time is a priority. On weekends, you might find the Bowens at a soccer game, walking their rescue dog, Makita, or enjoying a summer getaway in Sea Isle City, where Peter’s parents have a home. The shore holds special meaning for the couple, who first met and later got engaged by the ocean.

“It’s definitely a juggling act,” Dr. Bowen says of balancing family and her practice. “But my husband and kids keep me grounded. I try to be fully present—whether I’m with a patient or cheering from the sidelines.”

Whether transforming smiles, raising her family in the Hill, or giving back, Jessica Bowen embodies the spirit of our community!
