Dear Fellow Resident,
Each spring, we’re reminded of the many reasons why Harrison Township is such a special place to call home, and the Asparagus Festival is one of them. I’m thrilled to invite you and your family to this year’s event taking place this Saturday, May 17, along Main Street.
This annual festival commemorates a proud moment in our town’s story. On May 17, 1922, 1,000 pounds of fresh Gloucester County asparagus was flown from Mullica Hill to Boston in what became the first-ever air transport of fresh produce in U.S. history. That’s an amazing legacy, and it all started here.
The festivities include:
- The 2025 Battle of the Chefs, where ten local chefs and bakers compete for your vote and the praise of celebrity judges. Tickets for the Battle of the Chefs are just $20 (children 14 and under are free). Space is limited, so be sure to reserve yours today at www.mullicahillasparagusfest.com.
- A lively marketplace around Old Town Hall featuring South Jersey’s finest artisanal and specialty foods.
- Live music to keep the celebration going all day long.
- A pet adoption booth hosted by South Jersey Rescue, paired with the Historical Society’s Spring Exhibition – Animal Kingdom: Man & Beast
- And of course, fresh, local asparagus to take home and enjoy
Our Historical Society’s commitment to preserving our town’s rich heritage while also creating a space for celebration is nothing short of inspiring. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, vendors, sponsors, performers, first responders, and township staff who contribute their time and talents to make this festival one of the most anticipated events in South Jersey.
As Deputy Mayor, I’m incredibly proud of how this festival brings us together, celebrating our past while looking ahead to a bright and connected future. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or new to the area, I encourage you to join us, enjoy the festivities, and experience the true heart of Harrison Township.
Together for Harrison Township,
Lawrence Moore
Deputy Mayor
