The Story Behind June and Gino Giumarello’s In the Village Salon & Day Spa

Founded by June and Gino Giumarello, Mullica Hill’s award-winning In the Village, a premier salon & day spa, has been a local destination for beauty and self-care for nearly 27 years. The story of In the Village begins in 1997 on the Historic Clifford Wells Farmhouse property, nestled on Main Street. It was there that the young couple embarked on the dream of opening a salon. Tucked behind the main house, which served as the Giumarellos’ residence, the couple transformed a modest cottage into a salon with four styling stations.

Gino told us, “We chose Mullica Hill because we saw it as a wonderful community to start our family and the potential growth for our business.”

Gino, hailing from a family of entrepreneurs, several of whom were in the beauty business, found opening his own salon a natural calling. The couple’s vision was simple: to provide an unparalleled guest experience with meticulous attention to detail in a warm, inviting, and beautiful environment. Soon, the salon’s reputation for excellence extended beyond the local community, attracting clients throughout the area. The Giumarellos’ partnership in both business and life was evolving into a wonderful success story, marked by a thriving salon and the blessing of children.

After a few years, In the Village had outgrown the cottage, prompting the difficult decision to expand into the main farmhouse.

Reflecting on this time, June shared, “I adored living in the farmhouse. The charm of the old house, coupled with the fact that our first two sons were born there, makes the memory of those years priceless.”

Although bittersweet, the move allowed for an expanded vision, and with true entrepreneurial spirit, it was a innovative one. The couple envisioned creating a tranquil destination for beauty and self-care by establishing In the Village as the first true day spa in the region.

Through the years, June and Gino’s success story continued to blossom alongside their growing family and flourishing business. Today, In the Village has two locations: Mullica Hill and Woolwich. Their team of over sixty beauty artisans and wellness providers offer a comprehensive range of services, including hair styling, coloring, makeup, and nail care, as well as indulgent spa treatments such as massage, skincare, and waxing. Its status as a “premier salon & day spa” has been solidified through numerous accolades, including multiple Best of Gloucester County and Best of South Jersey awards, as well as recognition from esteemed institutions such as the PB Beauty School.

What began on the historic grounds of the old Clifford Wells Farmhouse has become a legacy destined to endure. June and Gino shared with pride that their son, Lucas, has enrolled at the Rizzieri Beauty School. He undoubtedly has two incredible mentors to guide him along his path.
