Mayor’s Tornado Update

From the Desk of the Mayor

Dear Resident,

After the unprecedented events of last night’s tornado, we are in the process of assessing the physical damage and ensuring that the needed resources are available and engaged.

As of 10am this morning, I am relieved to report that miraculously only one person sustained injuries that required a hospital visit and it is reported they are doing well.

The following are important points of information:

• I will provide updates throughout the day. But, as the immediate need to provide you with timely information and direction arises, we will post on the township’s Facebook and Website. We ask that you check either of these platforms regularly.

• We have set-up a hotline at 856-478-2164. We ask that you be patient as we will respond as quickly as possible. It is important to note this line is for non-emergency questions only. If you have an emergency, dial 911.

• As you begin the clean-up of your properties, please place your debris curbside separated in three distinct piles as described below:

1. Metal/Electronics-such as televisions, computers, appliances, metal waste
2. Building Debris-such as wood, carpet, insulation, roofing, non-metal siding
3. Yard Waste-such as tree limbs, shrubbery

• As much as possible, please try to stay off the roads, so that emergency personal and vehicles have access.

• As a fire precaution, the use of temporary generators should not be used indoors.

• GCIT, supported by the Red Cross, is serving as shelter for those in need, but family and friends have stepped up, minimizing its use.

• Gloucester County institute of Technology (GCIT), 1360 Tanyard Rd, Sewell, NJ 08080, is also serving as a temporary shelter for rescued pets.

• Our community’s offers to assist have been incredible and humbling. You can donate clothing, water, or other essential items (no food at this time) by delivering them to Clearview Regional High School at the back door location of the all-purpose room off of Breakneck Road. We have an immediate need for plastic storage totes for clothing and other storage.

Thank you for your attention in these matters.

Together for Harrison Township,
Lou Manzo

Your Mayor
