Dear Fellow Residents,

It is hard to believe that Labor Day is already upon us. It seems like yesterday we were celebrating the beginning of summer, and now we are welcoming the unofficial start of the fall season. For many of our residents, this time of year marks the seasonal transition to a more normal (sometimes hectic) routine with children starting school and other activities.

The Labor Day holiday celebrates the achievements of the American Worker. In this spirit, I want to thank the dedicated employees of Harrison Township for all you do to make our town such a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

The transition to fall also sees our bustling Main Street return to a robust calendar of events. I invite you to join us for our annual Patriot Day Commemoration on September 11, 6:30 PM at Mullica Hill Baptist Church. September 14 brings the culmination of our Main St. Market, Harrison Township’s pop-up farmers market. Introduced this year by Hazel Dilsaver of Farm House Design and M.H. Events and Suzanne Moore of Brainstorm Books, Main St. Market was a resounding success. Thank you both for your efforts!

On September 20, the Mullica Hill Business Association (MHBA) will be hosting a new event, Family Fun Friday. October brings another rendition of Sip, Savor & Social on Main, an adult gathering with libations from local breweries and wineries, delicious food, live music, and unique merchant destinations. The event was great fun back in May, and you won’t want to miss the fall version. Stay tuned to Happening in the Hill for more information. Also in October is the Harrison Township Historical Society’s 22nd Annual Mullica Hill Ghost Walk, which takes place on Saturday, October 5. Hazel and the team at MH Events will host the Fall Festival on October 12 and 13, and the MHBA will bring us their annual Trick or Treat on Main on October 17. Also celebrating Halloween on October 19 is our township Trick or Trot Costume Fun Run / 1 Mile Walk and fun for the kids BOOGIE Walk. Wow! There is a lot going on in our vibrant little town. For more details on events and happenings, visit the township’s events calendar.

Many of the events in town are made possible by the efforts of our local business community. Please return the favor by supporting them whenever possible. Our township business directory, Find It in the Hill, provides a comprehensive listing of local eateries, shopping, service providers and more.

I’d also like to bring to your attention our upcoming 2nd Annual Wings of Life – Harrison Strong Suicide Awareness Week, hosted in collaboration with the Paul Michael Donahue Foundation, the week of September 8. This week of activities and events, view here, are dedicated to raising awareness and educating our community about suicide prevention. I will be providing more information in a email correspondence soon.

Additionally, I’m thrilled to announce that this year’s Annual Camp Do Good Blood Drive was a tremendous success! Our community surpassed its goal, collecting 35 units of blood from 32 donors. Among them were 4 first-time donors and 14 Type O donors, whose contributions are especially needed. Thanks to these generous donations, the American Red Cross will be able to provide lifesaving support to up to 105 hospital patients in need. This is especially critical as the organization battles a national blood shortage. A special shoutout to resident Kelly Redkoles, who coordinates this event each year, as well as other Harrison Cares initiatives such as Go for the Gold, the Childhood Cancer Research fundraiser coming in September. Kelly, you embody the HarrisonStrong spirit!

On behalf of my fellow Township Committee Members, Deputy Mayor Lawrence Moore, Committeewoman Michelle Powell, and Committeemen Jeff Jacques and Kevin French, we look forward to seeing you and your family during the active and beautiful fall season in Mullica Hill. Together, we wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy, and safe Labor Day weekend!

Together for Harrison Township,
Lou Manzo
Your Mayor
