Dear Fellow Residents,

Today we celebrate our nation’s independence for the 248th time. Many of us are planning trips to the shore, backyard BBQs with family and friends, and, of course, deciding where to watch the fireworks. Washington Township and Woodbury are a couple of nearby suggestions.

The Fourth of July celebrates the birth of our nation, recognizing the declaration of a free society where the people have the final say. This declaration, made by our founding fathers who had everything to lose, was a commitment to the interests of the masses. Their brilliance and sacrifice laid the foundation for the dream we call America.

Our democratic experiment is a work in progress. Although imperfect, it continues to endure its challenges, constantly evolving as it must, while staying true to our Founders’ basic philosophies. Time and time again, we have proven that issues which divide us can serve as a platform to unite us. The protected opportunity for this constructive debate is America’s gift to humanity.

As you celebrate your family’s July 4th tradition, take a moment to give thanks to the generations before us and those today who are dedicated to our country’s vision of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Think of those in uniform currently serving our country, away from their families, here and abroad. Remember our police, fire, and first responders this holiday, who make a lifetime commitment to protect and serve others.

On behalf of our Harrison Township department heads and team members, and my fellow Township Committee members, Deputy Mayor Lawrence Moore, Committeewoman Michelle Powell, Committeemen Jeff Jacques, and Kevin French, I wish you and your family a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday.

Together For Harrison Township,
Lou Manzo
Your Mayor
