Mullica Hill Asparagus Festival
May 18 @ 11:00 am
The Mullica Hill Asparagus Festival commemorates the first shipment of fresh produce by air in the United States. In 1922, a plane loaded with 1000 pounds of fresh New Jersey asparagus took off from the Iredell farm on Wolfert Station Road in Mullica Hill, it arrived in Boston in time for the Governor of Massachusetts and the mayor of Boston to enjoy asparagus that evening for supper. The feat received national press coverage.

This year’s festivities promise to be bigger and better than ever! Just in time for Spring planting, the Roughwood Center for Heritage Seedways from Devon PA will have heirloom seeds and gardening books available for purchase. Old Town Hall Museum is featuring it’s new exhibition, Last Call: Taverns and Temperance, and exhibits about asparagus. Plus, T-shirt and vintage cookbook sales and children’s activities, and fresh local asparagus will be available for purchase. And you won’t want to miss the Battle of the Chefs!
Battle of the Chefs
The Battle of the Chefs tasting event is the centerpiece of the Festival and this year features five chefs and four bakers and confectioners vying for the coveted trophies for best savory and sweet asparagus creations. The event will see Marino’s of Mullica Hill defending their win last year against blueplate, David and Sons 322 BBQ, Harrison House, and Naples at the Warehouse, while the Cake Boutique goes up against Amici, Artisan Marshmallow and Mademoiselle Macaron in the dessert round. With fresh local asparagus supplied by Grasso Girls Farm Market, this will be a true farm-to-table match-up.
