Jazz in June
June 2 @ 3:00 pm
Jazz in June closes out the Harrison Township Historical Society’s Spring lecture and concert series at Richwood Academy Cultural Center. This year, the Center welcomes the John Hoey Trio for an afternoon of selections from the Great American Songbook.
The Great American Songbook encompasses the popular and enduring tunes from roughly the 1920s to the mid-century. This timeless music came to form the core repertoire of jazz musicians during that time period and continues to be so to the present day. Standards include works by Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, and Cole Porter, among others, that continue to be fresh and open to both classic and new interpretations.
The Harrison Township Historical Society’s arts and history programs are made possible in part by funding from the Gloucester County Cultural and Heritage Commission at Rowan College of South Jersey, in partnership with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Jersey Historical Commission/Department of State.
