Dear Fellow Residents,
As Memorial Day approaches, we look forward to the unofficial start of summer, with backyard barbecues, trips to the shore, and other cherished traditions that bring us together with family and friends. While we enjoy the long weekend, Memorial Day also reminds us to pause and honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces, and their families, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
I invite you to join our Veterans Commission and American Legion Post 452 for Harrison Township’s Annual Memorial Day Salute on Monday, May 25. Residents are welcome to attend one or more of the following stops as we come together to honor our nation’s fallen service members.
- 9:00 AM – Mullica Hill Baptist Church
- 9:15 AM – Old Town Hall
- 9:30 AM – William Wilt Memorial
- 10:00 AM – Richwood United Methodist Church
Residents may also honor a Veteran with a custom-engraved brick on our Veterans Memorial Walkway at the William Wilt Complex, affectionately known as Hero Lane.
This year’s Memorial Day observance carries additional meaning as our nation commemorates America250, the 250th anniversary of America’s founding. Here in Harrison Township, we are proud of our own community-wide celebration, Revolutionary Roots: America250.
As part of this celebration, Township Committee members will share our Growing a Nation series in Happening in the Hill, highlighting key moments, leaders, and events that shaped America’s path to independence.
Residents can also show their patriotism and township pride by ordering the official Harrison Township Revolutionary Roots: America250 commemorative t-shirt!
As we gather with loved ones this Memorial Day weekend, may we never forget those who gave everything for the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today.
