School Bus Safety

Harrison Township has a number of schools located within our municipal boundaries; the buses can make morning and afternoon traffic seem burdensome. However, even if you are running late or having a rough morning, it’s important to remember those buses are carrying our children. Stopping when a school bus is picking up or dropping off children is the law. Below is a diagram showing the situations in which vehicles need to stop for a school bus.

In most of Harrison Township roads are 2 lanes, in which case both directions of traffic need to stop.  Route 322, for example, does not have a barrier or median dividing the lanes and therefore, all lanes must stop. On multilane roads that do have a barrier or median, traffic coming from the opposite direction must use caution when driving past a stopped bus.
