The Office of the Registrar of Vital Statistics maintains and makes available all vital statistic records for the Township of Harrison. All births, deaths, marriages, civil unions and domestic partnerships occurring within the township are recorded by the Harrison Township Registrar of Vital Statistics thus, copies of any of the aforementioned documents may be obtained through this office.

Copies of vital records may be obtained by completing an application and properly identifying the record in question. Pursuant to the Governor’s Executive Order #18, the registrar may only issue a certified copy of a vital record to persons who establish themselves as the subject of the vital record, the subject’s parent, legal guardian or legal representative, spouse, child, grandchild or sibling, if of legal age. In addition to authenticating your relationship to the subject of the vital record, you must submit proof of your identity. To learn what are considered acceptable forms of identification you may contact the Registrar directly or visit the NJ state Office of Vital Statistics website.
Requests for a certified copy of a vital record may be made by mail or in person. For your convenience, we have made our application available online. The application and proof of your identity must accompany your request whether it is made by mail or in-person. Certified copies are available at a cost of $12.00 per copy payable by cash or check only.

The Registrar’s office is solely responsible for taking application for and issuing marriage licenses within the Township of Harrison. You must apply for your marriage license in Harrison Township if either the bride or groom resident within the township, or if neither party is a resident of New Jersey but intend to hold their ceremony in Harrison Township. Applications are by appointment only! Both parties must appear in person to apply for the license. You will asked to bring copies of your birth certificates, current driver’s licenses or passports (cannot be expired), know your social security numbers and provide proof of residency such as a valid driver’s license, lease, tax return, etc.
A witness at least eighteen (18) years of age must appear with the applicants, provide identification, and swear to the completeness and accuracy of the answers supplied by the applicants. If either party has been in a marriage, domestic partnership or civil union before, a copy of a death certificate, divorce decree, dissolution of civil union or termination of domestic partnership should be submitted with the application.
Applications are by appointment only! For your convenience, we have made the Application for a Marriage License available online. You are not required to complete the application in advance of your visit to the registrar’s office but doing so will make the process a bit smoother. If you do complete the form in advance, please do not sign the application, as it must be signed under oath and in the presence of the issuing authority. The fee for a marriage license is $28.00 and payable by cash or check at the time of application.
