HARRISON TWP, N.J.— The Mullica Hill Merchants Association is delighted to announce the First Annual Mullica Hill Book Festival to be held Saturday, June 13, 10am – 5pm, right on Main Street!
Mayor Louis Manzo will kick off the day at 10am by reading one of his favorite childhood stories aloud at The Old Town Hall. Throughout the day, festival attendees can meet authors and illustrators, participate in free storytelling and kid-focused activities, visit local shops and vendors, browse through hundreds of new and used books, and spend time as a family at the Fulton Bank™ Fun Tent.
A county-wide writing contest, “Reading Opens Doors”, will culminate at noon on June 13th as the winners are announced. For contest rules please check out the event on the Mullica Hill Book Festival Facebook page. The winners will receive Visa gift cards.
“I was the first person in my family to go to college. I see how a love of reading and education brought me to be the person who I am today,” said Justine Greene, Director of the Book Festival, “I would love to see every child in Harrison Twp. grow to love reading and allow that to take them off into a successful adult life.” That love of literacy spills out into two partnering organizations, FURever As Friends and LiteracyNJ. FURever As Friends will have teams from their S.M.I.L.E. (Silent Mentors In Literacy Education) Program for children to read to. Literacy NJ is having a letter writing station to help teach kids how to format a letter and address an envelope.
